Weighbridge

The Weighbridge redevelopment was the first project delivered in line with the Masterplan for the St.Helier Waterfront drawn up in 2007 by Hopkins Architects. WEB delivered the project using local designers, engineers and contractors.

The new public space that was opened in July 2008 has regenerated the Weighbridge area by creating a new high quality square that now accomodates regular food and produce markets, arts and craft fairs and numerous annual events and exhibitions. Businesses in the area have welcomed the new opportunity for alfresco dining and the petanque terrains have been a huge success.

In specifying plants, paving materials and street furniture for the project great care was taken to ensure quality in terms of aesthetics and durability. Granite materials were purchased directly by WEB and workmanship on site was subject to rigorous supervision by WEB representatives. Proving that the old and new can work harmoniously together the Museum Arch was relocated to its original line to bring the museum building into the Weighbridge scheme.

The extension and refurbishment of the Royal Yacht Hotel took place around the same time and has been a major success.

An existing oak tree was accomodated within the design and energy efficient 'LED' feature coloured lighting was installed to ensure that the area is imaginatively illuminated at night with a low carbon footprint.

To faciliate use of the area for public activites pop-up services modules are concealed within the paving in the main square area.
