Arctic Village announced for this year’s Fête de Noué

Airtel-Vodafone, The Parish of St Helier and Jersey Development Company are delighted to announce a brand new Christmas experience, as part of the 2016 Fête de Noué celebrations. The Airtel-Vodafone Arctic Village will be situated at the Weighbridge, St Helier from 24 November 2016 until 8 January 2017 offering the community six weeks of festive-fuelled fun!

A brand new undercover Christmas experience, featuring an array of attractions and entertainment including a 30 Metre x 20 Metre Ice rink, a German eaterie, noodle bar, children’s entertainment, Santa’s grotto and a giant snow globe. Islanders and visitors will be able to savour various cuisines on offer from the delights of traditional German sausages to the aroma of mulled wine and cider.

A stage will be set for live music from various musicians and choirs offering festive entertainment throughout the period. The Airtel-Vodafone Arctic Village will also be the perfect place to do some Christmas shopping, whilst soaking up the festive atmosphere. 14 chalets will offer handmade gifts and crafts, including ceramics, candles, cushions, jewellery and art. There’ll be plenty to choose from with more than 30 different options over the four week build up to Christmas. And don’t forget, no matter what the weather is outside, you can stroll your way around the village in comfort.

We are also especially thrilled to announce the biggest New Year’s Eve party ever to be held at the Weighbridge, where the whole family can join in the fun and entertainment at this ticket only event. There’ll be a variety of games on the ice rink, ice skating, buffet dinner, music and dancing till late.

Team building and corporate nights are also available, which will include curling, pretend ice hockey, tyre-ride relay and broomball… and no skates required! Participants can play in trainers.

The Constable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft, said: 'The events and festive decorations at the Weighbridge always form an important part of St Helier's vibrant Christmas atmosphere and this year is no exception. The Arctic Village will be appreciated by both locals and visitors of all ages and will complement the efforts being made throughout the town by the retail and hospitality sectors to make the Fête de Noué a memorable experience.'

Peter Zunino, head of sales and marketing at Airtel-Vodafone said:

‘Our business is all about connecting people, which is particularly important around Christmas time. Therefore, we are delighted to play our part in supporting this new and innovative event, which will bring family, friends and festive fun all together under one roof. I’m sure it will be a fantastic experience for all who attend.’

The organisers are delighted to gain the support from Mark Cox, Chairman of Chamber of Commerce Retail and Supply Committee and David Elliott of the Retail Development Group, Mr Cox said:

‘Retail members are delighted that an Ice Rink is being located in a much more central location this year. This attraction combined with the other activities located within the Arctic Village will not only add to the ambience within the town, but also assist in attracting additional footfall to the centre of St Helier at this important time of the year for retailers.’

Mr Elliot added:

‘A number of retailers felt that the relocation of the Ice Rink away from the town centre effectively "relocated" a number of their customers too. A town centre based ice rink attracts both skaters and spectators and very effectively adds to the seasonal atmosphere at this crucially important time of the year for retailers. Retail Theatre is very important in attracting customers into Town, the Ice Rink is a good example of this.’

The Airtel-Vodafone Arctic Village is free entry and will be open every day except Christmas Day and occasional private functions. Ice skating and New Year’s Eve tickets can be purchased online for ease. There will also be a small number of ice skating tickets available at the door for some sessions.
