JCG Students Creative Workshop - Public Art Commission for College Gardens
100 years of JCG history is being brought to life through the College Gardens public art project. During the past year, JCG art students have been participating in a series of creative workshops with accomplished artisan and stonemason Derek Tristram.
On Tuesday, the students visited Derek’s workshop in St Ouens, where they not only had the opportunity to see his progress of the granite public art sculpture, they also gained some valuable experience and knowledge from the expert, carving their very own Motif piece using Caen Limestone.
Over the past few months Derek has been working to complete the sculpture which represents how women’s roles in society have changed over the past 100 years. The piece is due to be completed in the next couple of months and installed adjacent to the old Greek theatre at College Gardens later this Summer. We hope this will create a lasting cultural legacy for future generations for both College Gardens residents and students from JCG to enjoy.< Back to News list
