Pride of Jersey Awards

We were delighted to be involved with the Pride of Jersey Awards, which was held at Government House on Sunday 11 September in the presence of His Excellency General Sir John McColl and his wife Lady McColl.

The awards recognise remarkable groups or individuals who have gone beyond all expectations and have helped to enhance the lives of others around them.

The Child of the Year award gave us an opportunity to celebrate and highlight exceptional individuals under the age of 18 who have gone that extra mile and have become inspiring individuals.

The three finalists who were selected by public vote were Olivia Gallichan, Sophie Collis and Tamzin Bougeard - These extraordinary individuals have overcome incredible hardships with determination and dignity.

Amazingly, despite their adversities and absences for treatment, they have committed themselves to continuing their education, hobbies and interests with real life fighting spirit. They have shown acts of selflessness by helping others in similar circumstances, raising money for charity and raising awareness of their particular illness.

The judging panel had a very difficult task in selecting a winner as all three finalists were truly inspirational and we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all nominees and the runners up in this category. Unfortunately, only one of these amazing young people could be named the winner, and we were delighted to award the 2016 Child of the Year to Tamzin Bougeard.

Tamzin suffers from a very rare and painful condition that impacts one in a million people. Her nominator Katty Rioda commented that although in excruciating pain for much of this year, she always has a big smile and has remained strong. Tamzin has raised money for others suffering from the same condition and has refused to let the illness slow her down.

We would like to thank the team at Jersey Evening Post who organised a fantastic event as well as Jonathan Ruff and his team at Tamba Park and Tamba Arcade, who treated all 17 nominees of this year's Child of the Year award to a memorable day at his venues, before treating them to dinner at Pizza Hut.
