Damaged cable causes opening delay for Ice Rink
Jersey Development Company have announced that the opening of the Ice Rink sited at the
Weighbridge has been delayed due to an electricity cable damaged during the building of the
marquee housing the rink.
The Ice Rink was due to open this coming weekend in time for the Island’s school half term
holidays but now cannot be opened until the Jersey Electricity 90,000 volt (90 KV) cable has been
repaired by specialist jointing teams which need to be brought in from the UK.
The damage was caused by a third-party contractor driving in a heavy-duty iron anchoring stake as
part of the marquee’s weather proofing to withstand high winds. JDC are working closely with
Jersey Electricity and due to the close proximity of the cable repair – along with the trench required
for the repair – it is not possible to open the ice rink until these works are complete.
The Ice Rink was planned to open on 26 October, the revised opening date will now be 15
November. This may however be subject to change depending on how the repair works progress.
JDC appreciate that there will be many disappointed children as the rink had been planned to open
in time for the October half-term and are sorry for the unforeseen delay to the Ice Rink’s opening.
Ice Rink bookings affected by the delayed opening can be changed by using the ‘Jersey On Ice’ Rink
app or refunded by emailing enquiries@jerseydevelopment.je
